Basic security procedures

Depending on where you work and for whom, the duties of your employ will vary. However, all guards must represent their client and firm with duty of care.

PROTECTING PROPERTY, PEOPLE AND INFORMATION is your primary goal. Examples are responding to man made threats and natural threats. Fires, alarm responses, floods, power failures etc.

Interacting with law enforcement, police, and medical responders may happen while on duty. Posing as witnesses to criminal activity, controlling access areas to property will almost certainly take place.

Security guards must be able to provide leadership to enable law enforcement to do their jobs efficiently.

  • Examples of this would be, guiding fire fighters to the easiest access point in case of a fire, assisting in times of crisis

Security guards must be able to adapt to their changing environments.

Security guards must be able to recognize signs of different drug use and how to act if they have contact with such individuals.

Security guards must be capable of dealing with a wide range of situations, such as:

  • Traffic control
  • Monitoring people or places
  • Traffic movement.
  • Preventing, detecting and reacting to criminal and quasi-criminal actions.

Security guards may be asked to work certain events where they must monitor entrance and gate passages (bouncer), escort people and valuables, or inspect bags as well as check identification.

Crowd control

Guards must always be aware of their surroundings in order to prevent potential dangers or hazards at the work site.

MAJORITY OF TASKS WILL INCLUDE:

  • Observing
  • Deterring
  • Recording
  • Reporting
  • Some situations may involve physical intervention
