Crowd control

Security guards may have to maintain crowd control while working on private property.

They may assist police with large crowds (backup situations if it is necessary to call the police), with their main goal being to restore the peace.

Crowd control must be done with several things in mind:

• The risk to life and/or property whether or not action is taken
• The personal risk to the security guard
• Instructions of the guard’s supervisor or client
• Risks posed by leaving the post
• Availability or support of backup
• Urgency
• Development of tactics or plans dealing with the situation

Once all of those factors have been taken into consideration, the guards will then decide whether the police need to be called or not
